The problem with Wonder Woman won't be with the director, the writer, or any of the filmmakers involved. It'll be with Warner Bros.
WB over the years has proven to not only misunderstand the source material, but are also a VERY reactionary studio. From what I've read, Suicide Squad was most likely a very solid movie, that was butchered by editing in post production. DanielR on Twitter, saw the movie back in March and noted that he LOVED it. Then he saw it again in July and had this to say:

A lot of people who have seen the movie have mentioned that the film has bad pacing, and that it felt like there were many scenes cut out, particularly for The Joker.
I truly believe that Patty Jenkins and all involved, will craft a really good Wonder Woman movie. But I also believe that during Post Production, Warner Bros are gonna poke their big fucking dick shaped noses into all their business, listen to their focus groups, and make a bunch of bad changes and edits to the film. A DC Universe cannot thrive under Warner Bros. It is a studio problem. Yes Zack Snyder isn't innocent, but who were the ones who chose a historically polarizing director to spearhead their cinematic universe?
The problem isn't with the source material. The problem is it's got it's balls in the grip of the wrong people. Remember how I said WB were VERY reactionary? Just look at how dramatic of a shift in tone there was with the JL trailer. It's as if their bulletpointing what makes Marvel films successful, without understanding the meat of why those movies were.
