A9VG: Why is Hajimari being released in the summer as opposed to end of September as for previous titles?
Kondo: Since we decided to have the new generation [of Falcom employees] form the core of the dev team for developing and putting together Hajimari, work on the Hajimari project started earlier than in the case of past titles, and so we were able to set the target release date earlier accordingly.
A9VG: What role will the two characters in "3 and 9" (the novel in Trails of Cold Steel IV) play in Hajimari's story? Will they be operating independently or together with a certain one of the 3 main characters?
Kondo: These two characters showed up as characters in a novel in Cold Steel, but they will appear for the first time in Hajimari, and their activities will be caught up in those of the three main characters. I can't yet offer up any details but I'm sure that many gamers will be in for big surprises.
A9VG: How much screentime will the Divine Blade of Wind [Arios] get in Hajimari? Arios was on our side by the end of Ao No Kiseki: will he be playable in Hajimari?
Kondo: Arios is an extremely important figure in Crossbell, and will play an extremely important role in the Crossbell narrative as it unfolds in Hajimari. He is also extremely popular with people who have played "Zero" and "Ao", and there have always been rather enthusiastic calls for him to show up again. We will make sure to respond to this expectation of the fans in the course of our work on Hajimari.
A9VG: KeA's hair color towards the end of Ao is similar to that of the Grandmaster; is there some connection between the two? And if there is a connection, since one of KeA's abilities is that she can rewind time, does the Grandmaster also have such an ability?
Kondo: The Grandmaster is of course aware of KeA's special abilities, but any connection between the two is currently unclear. As for the Grandmaster herself, more details will be revealed in Hajimari and future titles in the series.
A9VG: Will the leads from Trails in the Sky show up in Hajimari? Will Kevin, from Trails in the Sky the 3rd, show up and be playable?
Kondo: I cannot comment on this at present, please stay tuned for future news.
A9VG: Even though players were able to choose Rean's romantic partner during the Trails arc, it looks based on present that there might be a final canon decision made?
Kondo: Many players have asked about this. At the least, if players have a "Trails of Cold Steel IV" save file for Hajimari, Hajimari will give preferential treatment to the choice made by players per that save file.
A9VG: Concerning the suspense Cold Steel IV left us in regarding McBurn - will Hajimari touch on this?
Kondo: Already released images confirm that McBurn will show up again. The game will use a certain way to relate what happened with him afterwards.
A9VG: There are at present scores of major characters in the Trails series, and a complicated web of relationships: we'd like to ask how do the dev teams keep track of it all? How are they going to be managing the increasingly large network of relationships between characters?
Kondo: Our only option is to keep meticulous track of materials and insist that developers individually have solid grasps of the material: we haven't really used any special techniques. Perhaps because of this, were someone unfamiliar with "Trails" to suddenly show up at Falcom and start dev work, they'd probably have a rough time of it.
A9VG: The PS5 will be out at the end of this year; will future Falcom titles look to be targeting the PS5? Will any entry following Hajimari which uses the new engine bring improvements to the graphics? And will motion capture technology be used for character animation?
Kondo: We will of course prepare for developing PS5 games. If possible we hope to release game visuals made with the new engine within a year. As for motion capture technologies, we plan to use it moving forward to make development more efficient.
