- The Lord of the Rings: gồm có 3 tập The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, và The Return of the King. -The Adventures of Tom Bombadil: quyển này dùng văn phong tương tự như The Hobbit. Nổi tiếng nhất có The Silmarillion. Quyển truyện này viết về Middle-Earth thời kỳ trước khi The Hobbit và The Lord of the Rings.

ARAGORN The mysterious Ranger of the North who goes by the name of Strider is often seen travelling around Bree and the towns and villages of Eriador, but only a few know his true nature. He is a man of few words who comes and goes as he pleases, often disappearing into the wild for weeks, months, or even years, only to return and quietly go about his business, whatever that may be. Tall, strong, and wise beyond the years shown on his face, Strider is a master tracker, hunter, and woodsman. He knows much about the healing arts, and is a valuable source of information about the medicinal properties of plants throughout Middle-earth. Do not be surprised, however, if he does not give away many of his secrets. Strider is not quick to share more than necessary, especially with those he does not know and trust. The struggle of the mysterious Rangers known as the Dúnedain is a central theme in The Lord of the Rings OnlineTM: Shadows of AngmarTM, and Strider plays a pivotal role throughout the game's quests and storyline. Although his true identity may be common knowledge to fans of the The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, in the earliest chapters of the trilogy (which is the time-frame in which the game is set), Strider's true identity and purpose are a carefully-guarded secret. The man known as Strider is actually Aragorn, son of Arathorn, descendent of Isildur, and heir to the throne of the kingdoms of Men. In order to hide his true nature from the powerful Darkness gathering in Mordor, Aragorn was raised in Rivendell by Elrond, and to this day he retains a close affinity for the Elves, their customs, and their history. As Chieftain of the Dúnedain, Strider watches over the affairs of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, asking nothing in return, as his Rangers protect their allies from the growing evil that reaches out from Mordor and Angmar and threatens to destroy all of Middle-earth. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ARWEN Born of immortal blood but doomed to live a mortal life, Arwen Evenstar, only daughter of Elrond Halfelven, is reputed to bear the likeness of her great-great-grandmother, Lúthien Tinúviel, the most beautiful woman to dwell in Arda. Like Lúthien before her, Arwen has chosen to give up her immortality for the love of a mortal Man, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, rightful heir to the thrones of both Arnor and Gondor. But their wedding is not assured, for her father has forbidden that any Man would marry his daughter, unless he takes the thrones of both kingdoms. Aragorn and Arwen first met in Rivendell, and later yet again in the glades of Lothlórien, the realm of Arwen's grandmother, Galadriel, where they were betrothed. For many long years while Aragorn wandered alone in the wilderness awaiting the time of his ascension, Arwen dwelt in the land of her grandmother until she returned to Rivendell with her brothers, Elladan and Elrohir. The Shadow in the East had begun to stir, and so Elrond summoned her home for her protection. Little did he realize that Rivendell itself would become as an island amidst the storm. Players in The Lord of the Rings OnlineTM: Shadows of AngmarTM, will have the opportunity to encounter and interact with the beautiful Arwen Evenstar after her return from Lothlórien, both in the new player experiences for Elves and Dwarves and in the halls of Elrond's House in Rivendell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bilbo Baggins More often than not, great events in Middle-earth occur because of individuals willing to sacrifice all in order to bring about change for the better. In The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the most unassuming of characters, the diminutive Hobbits, are the focal points amid legendary events. A scholar chronicling the great heroes of Middle-earth might easily overlook the Hobbits, but that would be a mistake. Hobbits are considered strong for their size, yet they are not as strong as Dwarves or Men. They are also fleet of foot and able to move in complete silence through even wooded lands. It is the intangible qualities of Hobbits, however - their resistance to corruption, strong bonds of kinship, loyalty to friends, love of simple pleasures and the giving of gifts, and a sense of what is important in life - that truly sets them apart as an influential force during the War of the Ring. In The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, five Hobbits in particular assume primary roles in the quest to destroy the One Ring. Bilbo Baggins was well-known as peculiar among Hobbits, having travelled some years before on a mysterious adventure only to return far wealthier than when he left. For many years afterward, events in Bilbo's home at Bag End were a popular topic of conversation and gossip throughout the Shire. If only half of the stories told were half-true, old Bilbo would be one of the most unusual hobbits in history! For the most part, though, Bilbo lived a pleasant and unremarkable existence in Bag End ... except for occasional visits from Dwarves or sightings of Gandalf, the wandering wizard, at the door of Bag End. Bilbo's cousin Frodo shares kinship with the Bagginses and Brandybucks, both influential families with long histories in the Shire. His parents died when he was just twelve years old, after which he lived with his Brandybuck relations at sprawling Brandy Hall in Buckland. Taller and fairer-skinned than most Hobbits, Frodo was prone to getting into trouble as a youngster (particularly by stealing mushrooms from the ornery Farmer Maggot), but most folk regarded him as a fine, if somewhat mischievous, young hobbit. He gained an interest in the languages, histories and tales of the Elves, presumably from conversations with Bilbo. Bilbo adopted him as his heir when Frodo was twenty-one, and Frodo moved to Bag End to live there. In more recent years, particularly after Bilbo's strange disappearance during his eleventy-first birthday party, Frodo has seemed much less light of spirit, carrying a heavy burden of responsibility and keeping mostly to himself in Bag End, though few in the Shire dare guess what might be weighing so heavily upon him. His recent departure to live at Crickhollow, nearer to his Brandybuck kin, has been met with nearly as much speculation as Bilbo's departure 17 years ago. One Hobbit who may know more than most about Frodo's sudden departure is Samwise Gamgee of Bagshot Row, the youngest son of Gaffer Gamgee. As gardener and caretaker of Bag End, Sam has a close relationship with Frodo, as he did with Bilbo for many years. It is through Bilbo's stories and writings that Sam became interested in the far-off lands of Middle-earth, particularly the ways of the ancient Elves. Sam, like most Hobbits, prefers a fine meal (or three) to adventure of any kind. When the need arises, however, he always manages to hold on to hope, no matter how dire the circumstances. Ever-loyal to Frodo, Sam has also left the Shire to travel whatever road his master has chosen. This unwavering bond of loyalty and friendship between Sam and Frodo will be crucial as the Hobbits travel from the peaceful lands of the Shire and into the unknown wilderness that lies before them. In these dark days when Frodo has seemed the most troubled, it is the strength of his friendship with his cousins Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took that has carried him through. Merry and Pippin seem the perfect complement to one another: Merry is thoughtful and organized, while Pippin is youthful and exuberant, the one who "leaps before he looks". The pair have landed in their fair share of mishaps and adventures (along with Frodo in earlier days), but have the wherewithal to escape serious injury by using their wits, resulting in many not-quite-believable stories to be told over drinks at the local inns. Suspecting that Frodo's departure may be more than meets the eye, Merry and Pippin have had great success in determining Frodo's plans, though they have not shared this knowledge out of loyalty to their friend, leaving many in Hobbiton curious as to the true reasons behind Frodo's departure. Perhaps these Hobbits will return soon to share their tale, or perhaps they will never be heard from again. Time will tell. -------------------- Nếu bạn nào đọc ko hểu mình sẽ dịch ra Tiếng Việt ! ^^ ! ___________________________ Elront Master of Rivendell, son of Eärendil and Elwing, Elrond is Middle-earth's wisest master of lore and healing. Ancient even amongst the long-lived Elves, the regal and commanding Elrond wears the greatest of the three Elf-rings, Vilya, the Ring of Air, given to him by the great Elf-king Gil-galad. Known throughout Middle-earth for his wisdom and leadership, it is Elrond who gathers the Nine to become the Fellowship and charges them with the task of aiding Frodo in his quest to destroy the One Ring. He is friend and ally to those who stand against evil in Middle-earth, although the weariness of carrying the weight of the ages-long struggle can be seen on his noble face. In LOTRO, Elrond stands as a powerful force in aiding the Free Peoples in their struggles against the gathering darkness. In the refuge of Rivendell (called Imladris in Sindarin, the language of the Elves), nestled in a protected valley at the foot of the Misty Mountains, players can seek refuge to rest and heal and gain the knowledge and guidance of Elrond and his people. -------------------------------- Glorfindel The Elf-lord Glorfindel is one of the most powerful of all the Eldar of Middle-earth, counted great among the Wise. He remembers well the elder days of the world, and bears the great power and knowledge of ages past. His wrath can bring terror even to the Nazgûl of Sauron. In the days following the fall of Fornost, Glorfindel came to the aid of Eärnur, prince of Gondor, as he pursued the Witch-king of Angmar back to Carn Dûm. Eärnur's host would have been destroyed, but the sudden appearance of the Elf-lord sent the Witch-king retreating in fear. It was Glorfindel who prophesied that no man would defeat the Witch-king, and who lent his steed Asfaloth to Frodo Baggins during the Ring-bearer's flight from the Nazgûl across the Ford of Bruinen. In The Lord of the Rings, Glorfindel was one of the chief counselors of Elrond and a powerful member of the White Council. While Glorfindel first appears in The Lord of the Rings OnlineTM: Shadows of AngmarTM at Rivendell, players should not be surprised if he appears at some unexpected moment as "an Elf-lord revealed in his wrath...." ---------------------------------------- Gandalf Also known as the Grey Wizard (his Sindarin name Mithrandir means "Grey Pilgrim"), Gandalf is perhaps Middle-earth's best-known inhabitant. Although he sometimes appears to be old and frail, Gandalf the Grey is actually one of the most powerful allies of the good folk of Middle-earth and a guide to the Free Peoples in their struggle against the darkness. In addition to being a powerful wizard, Gandalf wields Glamdring, the Foe-hammer, a magical Elven-sword forged in the First Age and greatly feared by the creatures of evil. Calling no land his home, he is friend to many, especially Hobbits, and revered by Elves. Since he is often at the center of world-changing events, he is also feared by many as an omen of difficult times ahead. Gandalf serves as a wise leader in LOTRO, rarely seen, but always guiding events through his dealings. Players will often hear mention of Gandalf in the lands between Bree and Rivendell and may occasionally cross his path, since his activities in these early days of the War of the Ring serve to guide not only the quest to destroy the One Ring, but also the heroic activities of all the adventurers who seek to stand against evil. ------------------------------------ Old Man Willow Adventurers in the Old Forest, to the east of Buckland and the Shire, know well that very little is what it seems in those darkened woods. Many tell tales of the very trees whispering and moving, hindering the passage of travelers, many of whom become forever lost amongst the forest's shifting paths. Of these dark legends, perhaps there is none more sinister than the tale of a certain ancient willow, with a heart as dark as the forest itself. Old Man Willow, his trunk immense and his branches spreading out like enormous clawed hands, stands along the banks of the Withywindle awaiting the approach of unwary adventurers. A creature of great power, Old Man Willow is adept at luring his foes into a pleasant drowsiness in his idyllic setting along the river's meandering valley. Travelers had best be wary of his tricks, or they will soon find themselves consumed within the twisted roots and fissures of this evil forest-dweller. Old Man Willow is certain to be well known to fans of The Lord of the Rings, and although he will no doubt be a favorite location for players to visit, those familiar with the books will also know to approach him with extreme care. Located near the home of Tom Bombadil and not far from the edge of the Old Forest and the mysterious Barrow-downs, Old Man Willow is the first of the great and ancient powers in Middle-earth likely to be encountered by players. The grumpy old tree has a dark heart, to be sure, and protects his forest realm without sympathy for interlopers into his valley. It could be said that by his actions he is merely protecting the old way of life, as the Old Forest dwindles along with other ancient stands in these dark days. Players should be careful when adventuring along the Withywindle – Old Tom Bombadil may not always be about to save the unwary, as he did Frodo and company in the pages of The Fellowship of the Ring!
Thorin Oakenshield Thorin II, noble Dwarf of Durin's Line and king of Durin's Folk, accomplished a heroic task when he led a small company of Dwarves (and one reluctant hobbit) to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dreaded dragon, Smaug the Golden. Thorin succeeded in his quest, but sadly perished not long after, in the Battle of Five Armies. Still, there is much more to tell about Thorin and his deeds prior to that fateful quest. Legends tell of heroic battles alongside his father Thráin II, and of difficult years spent in exile after Smaug's arrival - years that saw Thorin lead the surviving Dwarves from their lost home to the Blue Mountains (also known as Ered Luin) in the west. Thorin Oakenshield appears in The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, despite the fact that he met his end some seventy-seven years before the War of the Ring. Players who start the game as either a dwarf or elf will begin their journeys in the Blue Mountains, many decades before the events chronicled in The Lord of the Rings. Players will be able to interact with Thorin, and other famous dwarves of his Company as they make preparations to reclaim the Lonely Mountain. ===================================== Rangers Few can speak with certainty of the Rangers of the North – tall, mysterious strangers, occasionally seen in the shadows of a darkened tavern or in the wilds of Eriador. Tales of these grim Men tell of their desire for solitude and their seeming indifference to the affairs of the free peoples of Middle-earth. Few have had direct dealings with the Rangers, and those that do often suggest to others that extreme caution be exercised if conversation must be had with these mysterious men out of the wild. Clad in cloaks of dark green and grey, clasped with a star – the only adornment worn by any of their kind – the Rangers seem to blend into their surroundings whether they are in a town or in the fields and forests of the land. In truth, the Rangers of Eriador are of the noble line of the Dúnedain of the North and have, since the fall of the mighty kingdoms of Arnor more than a thousand years in the past, pledged to silently protect the lands of Eriador, including the Shire and Bree-land, from the darkness that once again threatens. Seeking neither praise nor thanks, the Rangers are master trackers and woodsmen; adept at concealment. They are also expert in hunting and in combat with both bow and sword. Few would speak ill of these grim champions if they but knew the service the Rangers have performed for centuries on behalf of all that is good in Middle-earth. ============================= Radagast Wandering from town to town, though most often found in the wilderness among the birds and beasts, Radagast the Brown appears to be an unassuming old man with a great love for the plants and wildlife of Middle-earth. While he does bear a deep affinity for the natural world, this hermit from east of the Misty Mountains is far more than his simple attire and quiet mannerisms convey. In truth, he is a powerful Wizard of the same order as Gandalf the Grey and Saruman the White, and Radagast's powers are mighty, indeed. Although he dwells in Rhosgobel on the edge of Mirkwood Forest, Radagast has been seen throughout Eriador of late, following strange purposes that he keeps to himself. Travelers who encounter Radagast need not be alarmed, however, for he is no friend to the dark forces rising in deepest Angmar; rather, his intentions are good and his actions most often work to the betterment of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth ... or at least of the beasts who live alongside them. Much can be learned from Radagast, especially about the wilds of Middle-earth and all the living things found there. Radagast is mentioned only occasionally in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, though it is clear that he is a Wizard of great power who has walked Middle-earth for centuries, much like Gandalf and Saruman. In The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, the design team at Turbine carefully approached the task of bringing Radagast to life, since he is indeed one of Middle-earth's most powerful characters, yet his powers, beyond the ability to speak with animals and to understand nature, are only vaguely identified, as is his overall role in the War of the Ring.
/agree w.
