The title takes place in a spooky 3D world that you view from a

behind-the-back perspective; and that's where any comparison to either of the games pretty much stops. The

game runs at a jaunty 30+ frames per second with up to four monsters simultaneously onscreen and with little

or no slowdown, though admittedly, the environment is kept fairly dark and/or misty so that you can't watch

the graveyards, alleys, sewers, and the like being built up around you. It's less a criticism than an observation,

since the darkness can easily be attributed to "atmosphere."But catacombs and cesspools aside, the real

mood-setters are the monsters. You will encounter fifteen distinct types of creatures (ranging from zombies to

giant spiders, dog-sized rats to werewolves, hellhounds to harpies, and three-headed ogres to flaming imps)

and five different bosses, such as the Yeti, a four-headed fire-breathing serpent, and old Crowley himself. All

have distinct powers and attack styles, making them quite a caliginous handful when an unpredictable, varied

group pounces on your character all at once.

ranging from small and large rocks to bombs and even other contestants, is not the only skill you must master.

How and where you throw them as well as who you are also come into play. Each of many characters has

different speed and strength attributes, though they all can toss due forward, spike an object down directly

before them, slam it over their heads and behind, or perform a special move dictated by the type of glove they

chose at the game's start - there are 70 gloves total. All these elements come together to make Poy Poy more

than just a whack-'em-in-the-head game. Throw a rock at a bomb, for example, and watch a nearby rival go

flying, but chuck a bomb in close proximity, and you'll likely be caught up in its blast. The environments you

select also dictate the type of strategy you'll need to employ. Each of the six has unique conditions, such as

weather and architecture, as well as indigenous items that will affect the game's outcome. For instance, the

desert is beset with sandstorms, the robots arena houses a boxing robot with an electrifying gaze, and the

iceberg stage is home to several particularly vicious penguins.

Warcraft II: The Dark Saga is the ideal game for the accountants, administrators, and restaurant managers of

the world - and strangely enough, it works pretty well for the rest of us. The name of the game is resource

management, cleverly disguised under the auspice of war. You choose sides over two different scenarios of

orc vs. human conflict, adapted from the PC title Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and its expansion pack, The

Dark Portal, then throw down the gauntlet from an overhead perspective.

Like all strategy games, Warcraft II: The Dark Saga is basically an advanced form of chess; one where not

only do the boards vary and you get to make your own pieces, but the main object changes as well. Though

most of the 52 missions in the title require that you utterly overwhelm your opponent and burn down all his

halls and farms, some entail building beachhead structures inside enemy territory, rescuing troops or forts, or

even escorting dignitaries through dangerous terrain. You often start off with just a handful of troops and

workers and must assign the troops to patrol for enemies while the workers gather wood and gold to build

farms, barracks, lumber mills, smithies, and the like. From there, new troops can be produced from the

barracks, their weapons can be upgraded using the lumber mills and blacksmith, and other new products can

be spawned after upgrading existing buildings. For example, workers will soon be building shipyards,

foundries, and roosts that in turn create battleships, oil transports, and dragons. While the names may change

depending on whether you're playing human or orc, the units remain the same.

Fans of the PC titles will be disappointed to learn that nothing new has been added to the game even though

several changes have occurred, such as the ability to auto-upgrade buildings, auto-build soldiers, and select

more troops at once. These new touches are nice, but they're relatively minor, so PC gamers are well advised

to avoid the console ports (though hats off to Electronic Arts for creating practically identical versions for the

Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn, unlike Virgin's handling of Command & Conquer). But if you haven't

played it before, Warcraft II is an excellent game well worth the time and effort necessary to beat it. In all, it

provides about several hundred hours of gameplay throughout its hoards of selectable and configurable

missions. Whether this should be considered as an excellent value to the buyer or a blatant robbing of his

youth, is really up to you, though. Expect to kill a few weekends with it and perhaps even a few work or school

days, as well.

Tekken 3 is the best PlayStation game to come along in a long time.

Some of the PlayStation's biggest moments have centered around a Tekken game. Tekken 1 was released a

few months after the PlayStation hit shelves and propelled the system to stardom. Tekken 2 came along, and

was another "better-than-perfect" translation of the arcade version, adding modes and what were some of the

most amazing FMV sequences available at the time. Tekken 3 has caused much debate prior to its release, as

it was slated to be the first Tekken game that wouldn't be a perfect translation. While the backgrounds aren't

quite as sharp (they're 2D) as the arcade version, the PlayStation version of Tekken 3 more than makes up

for this with additional modes, state-of-the-art FMV, and some of the best fighting to be found anywhere.

Mode-wise, Tekken 3 contains all the modes from Tekken 2. Time attack, team battle, practice mode, and

survival mode are all there, and haven't changed a bit. Tekken Force mode is a four-level side-scrolling mode

that pits players against tons of ninjas. While it seems like a really neat idea, in practice Tekken Force mode

isn't all that great. You can waltz right through the four levels very easily using only the right kick button.

Beat Force mode four times, and you'll unlock Dr. Boskonovitch, one of the game's two PlayStation-only

characters. Tekken Ball mode draws a few lines in the sand and turns the fighting game into a crazy version of

volleyball. Players bat a beach ball back and forth with attacks. Hitting the ball with a special attack transfers

the energy of that attack into the ball, giving it an eerie glow. If the opposing player gets hit with the ball, he

takes damage. If a player lets the ball drop, he takes damage there as well. Theater mode lets you watch all

the Tekken 3 FMV sequences that you've unlocked so far. It also lets you pop in Tekken 2 and check out all

the FMV in there, too.
