Đây là các câu hỏi: Since admission to the summer school is highly selective, and we want to design the program so as to best suit the needs of the applicants, we would like to get to know you a little better. The following questions can be answered in various ways: as plain text in an email, using a text processor (LaTeX, word, etc.) and converted into a PDF file, or handwritten and scanned. Please send us only plain text (ASCII) or PDF files! Mathematical Interests We like to know your interest in mathematics and how it possibly relates to other areas of your interest. Your answer can be written in free form, but the following question provide some guidance. We are aware that not all of them can be answered by every student; this is perfectly okay as we intend to admit students with a variety of backgrounds. Describe three mathematical problems that you find the most interesting. Is there a mathematical proof that impressed you because it is beautiful or unexpected? Which one, and why? Describe one or two courses you have taken recently. What were the main theorems (at most three)? Which mathematical books you have read/studied recently in some depth? Specify title, authors, and topic. By your own estimate: how well have you understood the material? Describe a few mathematical topics that you understand well. Which of them would you like to investigate further? Specify a few mathematical topics about which you do not know much, but which you would like to learn. Do you have any plans to do so? During the last two years, did you participate in any scientific activities, summer schools, math camps, etc.? If yes, please describe the experience you had: what were the courses you attended? How well did you understand the subject? Did you participate in any math competitions (national or international)? If yes: which were your favorites? What are the best results you have obtained during the last two years? Do you have any mathematics-related publications? Give exact internet references or attach electronic copies. Còn đây là phần em mới viết (vẫn còn chưa xong): 1) I have seen many problems from various branches of mathematics, but inequalities are one of my favorite parts, because despite being formulated in a short form they can be very difficult and beatiful. Even they don’t have many real applications and one may say that they probably won´t appear in IMO anymore, because nowaday many well-known „brutal“ strong techniques (with a lot of computation) have been developed for example ABC, pqr or tangent-line method, I still enjoy sitting hours and hours searching for elegant solutions requiring only classical inequalities like AG, CS, Hölder, etc. And there are still such inequalities, which are indecipherable by mentioned methods. Once i faced a very hard one: It took me more than 3 months of continuous effort to solve it I love Euclidean geometry, too. It appears in every maths olympiad, so for competitors it’s necessary to know. 2) 3) I live in Tachov - a small city, so there’s no mathematical course for us. The last time I had to go to Pilsen for the preparatory course for the MO. We didn’t concentrate on any concrete theorems, because we only solved problems. But I still remember a beautiful geometric relation – Erdös Mödel inequality. It’s quite famous and when I tried to google at home, I had found 12 different proofs for it. 4) 5) Recently I have finished „A path to combinatorics for undergraduates“ from two famous authors Andreescu T., Feng Z. This book contains the basic methods and concepts in enumarative combinatorics. I think, I understood it quite well. I always solved all the problem in the end of each chapter (even sometimes I also need some help from mathematical forums). I also have read „Secrets in inequalities“ from a Vietnamese author Pham Kim Hung. I like this book a lot. It helped me improve my skill at solving inequalities a lot. It’s suitable not only for the beginners, but for those as well, because it contains not only the basic methods, but also unexpected and surprising tricks. The last book, I would like to describe, is „Elementary number theory“ Burton D.M. I haven’t finished it yet, but I find it very interesting 6) I’m not good at combinatorics and I regret that I didn’t pay it more attention in the past. In Czech TST I did not solve any combinatorics problem, which annoyed me a bit. At the moment I’m spending most of my time on combinatorics and I find out, that it has its own beauty and I don‘t have to be afraid of it. As I mention before I have been studying mainly olympiad mathematics, so I do not know much about collegiate mathematics. In comparision olympiad and collegiate mathematics are antagonistic 7) I haven’t been in any international mathcamp, yet, but I have participated many camps involving Mathematics and Chemistry for the last few years. I will tell you more about my mathcamps, where I didn’t only do things involving mathematics, but I also enjoyed outdoors activities, sport and made friend with the others of the same interests. Both mathcamps were organized by corresponding seminar PIGLET for the best solvers, whose organisators are students of Charles‘ university. 8) A month ago I took part in Czech National Mathematical Olympiad, where I got the first place and immediately after that I participated Czech Team Selection Test, where I got the second place, so I’m actually in the Czech IMO team – a very good chance for me to measure my skills with the other Mathematics lovers from the whole world. This year IMO will be held in Amsterdam – Netherland, so I think if I can participate International Mathematical Summer School for Students 2011 it will be a very good preparation for me to get a good result (however my aims are not so high, because comparing to the other competitors I’m still not so good and this year I would like to get some experiences for the next year). 9) I don‘t have any mathematical publication
You don't say. I thought for an language expert like you, those logical thingies would be as hard as hell. Both sides of your brain are equally developed.
