I did make a threat for it here but it's seem nobody care
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?739807-WIP-The-Mongol-Invasion-Last-Hope-Of-The-South
In short my mod primarily focus on the second and third Mongol invasion of Vietnam (we did discussed about the map which contend a whole South East Asia or even Asia but finally agreed that it's simply too much for our knowledge and capacity). The mod begin following the establishment of Yuan Dynasty and its final offensive to destroy the Southern Song Empire completely and ended at the end of the Mongol Yuan - Daiviet war.
Due to the limit timeline and areas each factions would be focus extensively, for example the unit roster for each factions would be large (particularly the Mongol roster) that's why I'm trying to ask for permission from various mods.
These're the factions in my mod:
Major factions:
- Mongol Empire (or Yuan Empire): This's the major offensive faction of the mod, it occupy the northern part of the map, its military would be diverse and its roster would be very large which divided into at least 5 sub-groups. Its primary goal would be no less than conquer all other major factions. If you did try the Call of Warhammer mod then it's similar to the Chaos undivided
- Southern Song Empire: This faction would be in dire situation right at the start (similar to the Khwarezm in SS). It would be miracle for this faction to survive (and I'm not intending to let it survive!). Actually I'm still thinking about having this faction in the mod (for making a faction which is going to be doom for few turns is rather wasteful). If we simply erase this faction and turn it to something like 'Chinese resistant' or even rebel then it would be easier. And the 'Chinese resistant' would be mention below. This faction would consist of Chinese troops
- Daiviet: The primary defensive faction of the mod, its goal would be surviving and maintain its core territories following the campaign. Daiviet stand at the middle of the map, bellow the Yuan Empire and above Champa. At the moment I intend to have Daiviet as a single faction (for the sake of modding) yet if thing go well then we can have this faction divide into several factions to represent the various powerful Princes (the Emperor would act similar to Papal State in this case). It’s similar to the Empire factions in Call of Warhammer mod. This faction use primary Vietnamese troops mixed with some tribal troops, some Chinese troops and even some Champa troops
- Champa: The final major faction of the mod, it stands at the Southern most of the map. It’s also the smallest major faction in term of territories. Similar to Daiviet, the goal of this faction would be survive the Mongol invasion and maintain its core territories as well as expand. Historically and naturally (in gameplay) Champa and Daiviet are allies in the war again the Mongol, however thing will go another way if players want it to be. If the mod go well then it’s possible to divide Champa to around 3 factions to represent its 3 major center. This faction obviously use Cham troops yet they would be support by some tribal auxilia and even some Vietnamese troops (sent from Daiviet to help Champa if Champa and Daiviet are allies and the Mongol invaded Champa).
Minor Faction: there’re all unplayable in the casmpaign and each once have their own role.
- Rebel: the usual rebel of Total War mod. They represent various bandits, small tribes, revolt and other stuffs… Most of the rebel’s settlement would be spot in South China and the modern day Vietnam – China border to represent the complicate and chaotic area following the destruction of the Song Empire
- Chinese Resistant: This would be an emergence faction and it will respawn again and again randomly even if it’s destroyed. This faction represents various Chinese revolts again the rule of the Mongol. If we’re going to not include the Song Empire then it would be the alternative to represent the last stand of the Song Dynasty. This faction would be similar to the Beastman in Call of Warhammer.
- Minor Tribes: This faction represent the various minor power across the map, it’s similar to the Independent Greek, Eastern Kingdoms or Independent Gaul in the old Extended Culture mod of RTW. This faction consists of various tribal units. There units would also fight for the major factions in various cases as vassal or mercenary.
Well that’s the overall view of the mod.
About the map: you can find the form of it in the link above. One of the mod team is capable of making map but I’m not sure is he going to have his computer back! Beside that I fear the current map is a bit small
About the units and unit roster: here’s what I’m concern a lot now. These’re what I have for units at the moment.
- Mongol: as said above the Mongol/Yuan Empire will have at least 5 sub-groups of units. I intended to use various units from vanilla M2TW as well as units from De Bello Mundi (the resources of that mod are free) and Rise of Three Kingdoms (got permission from Gigantus) to represent them.
- Chinese: The Chinese troops would appear in many factions and would play a major part in the mod, fortunately both De Bello Mundi and Rise of Three Kingdoms have them J .
- Champa: I intend to use the Indian factions from De Bello Mundi for them. However I think it won’t be enough so unless we can find more units somewhere then we will have to make some.
- Daiviet: This faction concerned me most. We’re going to create an entire roster for this faction because there’re no alternative! And this faction is the reason why I’m trying to find someone capable of making units or at least textures.
About historical research: Most of Vietnamese branch who helped research Daiviet faction for AUH
About scripting: Blank, almost blank at the moment! The guy who can make a map may handle some form of script however
About the permission: Here’s the permission situation
- Vanilla and Kingdoms: These following factions may be useful: Mongol, Timurid, Apache (America), Chichimec (America), and maybe some units here and there of Muslim, East Europe factions
- De Bello Mundi: The mod team offer all the mod resources as free to use (beside CAI) according to this threat
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?609385-PERMISSION-TO-USE-MOD-MATERIAL . I do want to sent the mod team a PM to let them known but It’s seem no one are around now!
- Rise of Three Kingdoms: Gigantus granted me permission to use the mod resources (beside the buildings models).
- Broken Crescent: I asked the mod leader (
Byzantineboy) for permission to use their units (specifically units from Mongol, Kara Khitan, Kypchak and Indian factions) awhile ago yet got no reply until now so it’s seem we will have to find another way.
- Stainless Steel: I intended to use the units of Mongol and Cuman faction from this mod. I and
Lifthrasir did talk together about it but it’s quite complicate to find the owner of those models! In the other hand I found the Rise of Three Kingdoms mod also have many similar units to SS mod there so may I use them too?
- All Under Heaven: I did sent PM to
Yelü Dashi to ask for the permission and files from his mod. The AUH have Daiviet units (the only once so far) and Song units as far as I known, beside he’s also a creator of the Mongol units for Broken Crescent if I’m not mistake. Anyway I got no reply from him either so
- Third Age Total War: ok I’m not kidding here and no, we’re definitely not going to use orc or troll! The Rhun and Harad factions have some nice models. Unfortunately I don’t know how to get permission from the team because it’s seem nobody are active anymore! So we may have to find another way
Long to short we can use vanilla, De Bello Mundi, Rise of Three Kingdoms at the moment
PS: Practically my Rome Total War mod (plus Vanilla RTW, BI and Alex) have nearly enough unit models for all the above factions yet I was never tried to convert them to M2TW.
